Team for Man Utd League Cup
Of course, Moyes will say that we're taking this competition seriously, but what that means in terms of team selection is anyone's guess. Man U will presumably put out a second-string side, but that's not difficult with the squad they've got.

I'm expecting a lot of changes, but not to the extent of playing youngsters like Okoflex, though one or two might come off the bench. Or does he populate the bench with heavyweights in case they are needed? What about Antonio? Does he get a game here or will he be saved for the next PL game?

Surely it's time to give debuts to Areola and Kral. Starts expected for all the squad players that aren't usually in the starting lineup. Another start for Vlasic to help to get him up to speed.

Areola
Fredericks Dawson Diop Johnson
Noble Kral Lanzini
Yarmolenko Vlasic Masuaku

Subs: Randolph, Coufal, Longelo, Zouma, Soucek, Benrahma, Okoflex, Fornals, Antonio.

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
Definitely need to try out alternatives for Creswell (not just because he’s off form but in case if injury), along with other options up top when Antonio isn’t available.
I’d also play Johnsone at left back and Masuaku ahead of him, worked wel prior to his injury and we all know Arthurs frailties.
I’m guessing Man Utd won’t have a very strong side, resting a few so I’d like to keep Rice and Soucek in midfield as it’s a big strength of ours. Can bring Krall in later if going well or wait next week for Euro game

jasnik - Longelo is the U23s LB. Highly rated and deserves more of a chance than he has been given, in my humble.

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
Longelo has looked decent for the U23s but so has Ashby ( albeit in the highlights ) and he looks the standout player along with Baptiste? But I will defer to those who go to the actual games to know who they think could make the step up to the first 11. Lets hope Moyes gives one or two a chance even if just a cameo appearance. Unlikely it will be against United though.

On the subject of Longelo , he plays left back or at least down the left side or I thought he did? Could be good news if he is one that has the potential to step up as its definitely one of the "holes" in the squad.

Everything ok there Sir Alf?
I feel your irrelevant posting has reduced in frequency.

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
Soucek and Rice need to be rested.

I'd go with the OP, and if the game is tied at 60 minutes, hook Noble for Benrahma.

We've got to find a way to rotate the team, and the only way to do that is start blooding the reserves.A little bit of a trial by fire, but I don't see where else to do it.

Agree with kylay.

"For some reason", our squad looks a bit thin for the tasks ahead, and we have to be very clever about rotation in this situation.

I would also go with exile’s line-up.

I love being irrelevant. Going under the radar etc. Means no one responds to my postings ;-) Well in actual fact its therapy for me.

Must admit I have not been posting quite as much recently as I am ( whispers ) quite content with what Moyes is doing and the team.

But fear not, winter will be upon us soon, and I appreciate you and others are missing my diatribes. :-)

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
In my opinion we should use this game to learn a bit about a couple of the U23s as well as giving our other players a run out:

Areola

Diop
Dawson
Baptiste

Johnson
Kral
Noble
Fredericks

Lanzini
Oko-Flex
Masuaku

Subs:
Randolph, Longelo, Ekwah-Elimby, Zouma, Nevers, Soucek, Yarmalenko, Vlasic, Ashby

In reality we could do without this competition this year, and you could even argue the Europa is easier to win (given the liklihood the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool and their equivalents will not be in it at any stage) with greater rewards, so using this game to give a few some miles in their legs, whilst getting a bit of a look at some fringe youngsters would be of the greatest benefit to the club.

Also zero point in starting Yarmalenko...nothing to learn there, he'd go through the motions at best, and looks slow in any company. Save on his appearance bonuses is my view. Frankly I'd now freeze him out of all first XI fixtures...he offers nothing positive, is the opposite of what the side now stands for, and is barrier to someone like Oko-Flex getting a chance and taking it.

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
On the evidence of yesterday, Moyes' patience with Yarmolenko is close to being exhausted.

Commentators noticed that Moyes was giving him stick for not putting enough effort in.

Re: Team for Man Utd League Cup
Given the yoot are playing tonight and none are rested seems clear the full reserve team will.be playing.

Areola

Fredericks Dawson Diop Johnson

Noble Kral

Yarmalenko Lanzini Masuaku

Bowen (who will then get rested for Antonio come the weekend)

Makes you laugh that we have a choice of 3 reserve keepers for this game but not a centre forward for love nor money!
